Summary

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkeness bind them

In ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, The Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others。 But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him。 After many ages it fell into the hands of Bilbo Baggins, as told in The Hobbit。

In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care。 Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose。

This is technically a reread but I feel like in my old age I enjoyed this book more than I did the first time。 I do wish Tolkien didn't spend so much time on the setting but everything else is pretty good! This story means too much to me to give it anything but five stars。 Also, the Phil Dragash audiobook is worth seeking out on YouTube。 The sound effects and music add so much atmosphere。

I read the Silmarillion years ago and it was a hard task。 But I persisted and finished it。 Long have I forgotten the countless names in it but I am reminded of in the LOTR journey。 Scenes just pop up into my mind when I'm reminded of them。 Stepping into the LOTR world was something that I wanted to do for years, and I guess every book has it's perfect time to be read。So here I am - in a week I read two, out of the three books that I have, and I can't get enough! The books are so easy to be read, like a river that flows and you go along with the current and can't stop paddling because you have to reach the end of the journey。 You have to know what happens next, you're so eager to know everything, even tho that I've watched the movies countless times。 There were parts when you just feel so relaxed and calm and you can see the beauty that the Middle Earth is through the eyes of Tolkien。 The songs sung old as the world, the stories told for centuries, the people long gone but not forgotten, the creatures, every tree, stone, river, grass that has its own name and voice。 And you get even more mesmerized by it。 And you want to experience it。 And when you finish the book you fall into the reality that you live in。 。。。more

Re-read with a book club。 I do think that reading it slowly and discussing allowed me to develop a deeper appreciation for the story-telling and world-building (even if it can also lead to long tangents about whether or not balrogs have wings)。

This took me a very long time to read, but I loved it。 It makes D&D make so much more sense now。 I've never read this before and haven't seen any of the movies yet, so I came into this book with only cultural knowledge of it。 This took me a very long time to read, but I loved it。 It makes D&D make so much more sense now。 I've never read this before and haven't seen any of the movies yet, so I came into this book with only cultural knowledge of it。 。。。more

After reading The Hobbit I wasn't really looking forward to reading the whole series because I was pretty underwhelmed but this book was significantly better。 It reminded me of Don Quixote but a more serious version。 The world that Tolkien has created and his imagination are so impressive。 Sometimes when he gets deep into talking about the history and all the characters I get pretty confused/overwhelmed but in general it didn't take too much away from the story for me。 I'm looking forward to rea After reading The Hobbit I wasn't really looking forward to reading the whole series because I was pretty underwhelmed but this book was significantly better。 It reminded me of Don Quixote but a more serious version。 The world that Tolkien has created and his imagination are so impressive。 Sometimes when he gets deep into talking about the history and all the characters I get pretty confused/overwhelmed but in general it didn't take too much away from the story for me。 I'm looking forward to reading the next volumes。Something I also enjoyed about this book is how he is able to mix intense action parts battling enemies with parts of calm and serenity and no action。 It kept me interested and not too overwhelmed by constant struggles。 。。。more

I have to give 5-stars to the first book in the Lord of the Rings trilogy。 I mean, how can you not? The writing is wonderful。 The imagery sublime。 And with such writing perfection, something became clear to me。 I *hate* this genre。 I have struggled with other epic journey fantasy series, but thought it was just something I didn’t enjoy about the writing or that the story itself was lacking。 There is absolutely nothing specific to complain about with Tolkien, so why did I have to force myself to I have to give 5-stars to the first book in the Lord of the Rings trilogy。 I mean, how can you not? It's impossible to write a review on this book。 I love it so much。 It's been far too long since I read it last, and I was just smiling for days after I started reading it again。 The people, the places are all so vivid and Tolkien's use of language is just wonderful。 It's impossible to write a review on this book。 I love it so much。 It's been far too long since I read it last, and I was just smiling for days after I started reading it again。 The people, the places are all so vivid and Tolkien's use of language is just wonderful。 。。。more

TOP MARKS on my rating system!I loved this so much! In a gooey warm feelings kinda way。 I need a Ring of my own, complete with its Elvish carvings。 I'm going to be honest, I read The Hobbit several years ago and then tried this but gave up early on。 I've only returned to it because it is the grandaddy of what has become my favourite genre, and I was fully expecting to find it a drag, especially given it's a quest story, which I'm not normally a fan of (I'm a big fan of DNF'ing when you're not en TOP MARKS on my rating system!I loved this so much! (hide spoiler)]); the world-building, of locations and languages and races。。。 what more can I say?! 。。。more

You don't need me to tell you why this is so great。Despite having heard that the movies were extremely accurate to the books, I was still surprised at how much they managed to cram into the movies! It was still very entertaining to read despite having seen the movies, it's been interesting to see where the book deviates。 You don't need me to tell you why this is so great。Despite having heard that the movies were extremely accurate to the books, I was still surprised at how much they managed to cram into the movies! It was still very entertaining to read despite having seen the movies, it's been interesting to see where the book deviates。 。。。more

WOW! This book just blew me out of the water。 It was amazing in every way。 I wouldn't be surprised if I read this book 10 million times, it was that good!
